A Short Drive From St. Augustine

The charming Long Swamp area is located in Volusia County, just about an hour's drive south of St. Augustine. This area sits along the St. Johns River between Horseshoe Point Conservation Area, Murphy Creek Conservation Area, and Dunns Creek Conservation Area.

Hiking, Biking, Camping, Fishing and More

Adventure awaits in the beautiful Long Swamp. Residents can enjoy hiking, camping, biking, kayaking, picnicking, boating, and more in any of the three conservation areas surrounding Long Swamp.

Dunns Creek Conservation Area is a 3,156-acre property located on the southern half of Long Swamp. This area is full of local wildlife, and hunting is permitted when in season.

The Murphy Creek Conservation Area offers many of the same opportunities. Boats are permitted and necessary if you want to travel to Murphy Island.

There is also fishing along St. Johns River. Fishermen report catching a wide variety of fish, including bass, crappie, catfish, bluegills, bream, shellcrackers, shiners, and more. St. Johns River is 310 miles long and offers a variety of recreational activities along its shorelines. In many areas of the river, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and boating may be permitted.

What's In the Area?

Right below the Dunns Creek Conservation Area sits blue, freshwater Crescent Lake. It is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Florida and sits on 16,000 acres of land. There is a marina where boaters can house their boats and a swimming pool if the lake is not for you.

St. Augustine is a quick drive from the Long Swamp area. St. Augustine offers a long list of exciting attractions for people of all ages. Founded in 1565 by the Spanish, this city comes with a lot of history. Make sure to check out The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine is the oldest masonry fort in the United States. At over 315 years old, visitors who walk through the fortress walls are taking a trip through history.
