Lush Woodlands of Morgan-Monroe State Forest

Resting in the northeast corner of Brown County is the beautiful Sweetwater Lake. This lake is 379 acres in size, with 3.5 miles of sprawling shoreline.

Neighboring Sweetwater Lake is the smaller Cordry Lake, which is 259 acres in size, with 2.5 miles of shoreline.

These lakes lie within a private community and offer some of the most transparent waters in the state.

Sweetwater Lake has the perks of a private community with a view, but you are also only 60 to 90 minutes from the north side of Indianapolis.

Lake Recreation

Residents can enjoy swimming, boating, and even skiing on the clear waters of Sweetwater Lake. Skiing is only allowed in designated areas of the lake, so be sure to read up on the lake’s rules and regulations.

For pro anglers or just hobbyists, fishing is undoubtedly enjoyed on Sweetwater Lake. Only residents and guests are allowed to fish on this lake, so fishers do not have to worry about high traffic. The more popular species caught here are largemouth bass, bluegill, and black crappie.

Sweetwater Lake sits on the border of three vast stature forests: Monroe State Forest, Yellowwood State Forest, and Brown County State Forest.

Morgan-Monroe State Forest encompasses more than 24,000 acres in Morgan and Monroe counties in south-central Indiana. You can explore the state’s forests, hills, and steep valleys while admiring some of the state’s most beautiful hardwoods.

Here you can enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities and amenities, including primitive camping, cabins, lodges, three lakes, fishing, gold panning, picnicking, hunting, and hiking many miles of trail.

Similarly, Yellowwood State Forest is made up of 2,000 acres with a 133-acre lake. Camping, fishing, hunting, gold panning, picnicking, and hiking trails can also be found.
